My Favorite Movie by Karen Blanco of Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies

I saw "Bottle Rocket" for the first time around 1998, and thought "god, i think this could be my new favorite movie". and although a lot has changed over the last ten years, that one still holds true.

Whenever I'm sad, or having a bad day, "Bottle Rocket" will always cheer me up. It's funny without trying too hard, and the characters are instantly likeable without being quirky for quirky's sake. The soundtrack hints at Anderson's love for 60's garage, and is possibly the best use of Love's "Alone Again Or" in a film ever. I'll never get sick of any of the dialogue, and still think it's Wilson's best role to date (both Wilsons, that is). Anyway, if you somehow haven't see this film and you have a fairly well formed sense of humor, what are you waiting for?

Karen Blanco plays the organ in Chapel Hill band Violet Vector and the Lovely Lovelies. Their first ep, EP 1, is available here and on iTunes. In our youth, Blanco made several mix tapes for me, one of which featured several songs from the Bottle Rocket soundtrack.
