From the Editor's Desk

The summer months are upon us and that means Hollywood blockbusters. Oh, boy. I've already bashed most of what's coming up this summer in an earlier post praising Iron Man, but I'm still excited...kinda. Sometimes you make the wrong movie choice, other times you get it right (obviously), but there is always some goofball in the audience who says something that makes the experience even more special, good movie or bad. I thought I would devote this post to some of my favorite things overhead in a movie theater.

"Stand up, lady!" -child to a drowning Jodie Foster in Nim's Island.

"Look at all that ketchup." -dude at House of Flying Daggers.

"This is the defining moment of my life." -young man at a sneak preview of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

"Ugh. That is vile." -lady after Daniel Plainview calls Eli Sunday "afterbirth" in There Will be Blood.

"That will teach us to go to the movies on a Sunday afternoon." -one dude to another dude walking out of A History of Violence.*

"THEY'RE GONNA DO AVENGERS!" -40-something bald dude w/ ponytail and children at the conclusion of Iron Man.

"Jesus!" -repeated 3-to-4 times by the young man sitting next to me at The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.**

*to this day the most confusing thing I've overheard at a movie theater
**the young man later witnessed to me in the parking lot and invited me to his church.
